We fully understand that moving from Primary School to a large Secondary School, including a Sixth Form, is a big step for even the most confident of children. It’s for that very reason we make the transition process as smooth, supportive and informative as possible to best prepare each new student, and parents/carers, for life at GSHS.
Once our Year 7 places are allocated in March, our Transition Team go to work with your child’s Primary School and Year 6 teachers to gather as much information as possible to help us get to know your child as best as possible and ensure a confident start to life as a GSHS student. This includes academic information, students who your child works well with, details of hobbies, interests and talents, as well as any Pastoral, Safeguarding or SEND information which we need to be aware of to best support your child.
Our new students are then invited to two Transition Days (3rd and 4th July 2024), where they will take their first step as official members of the GSHS community. Our Transition Days give our new Year 7 students the opportunity to spend time with their new Form Tutor, meet new friends who they are in a Form with and, most importantly, start to meet some of the key staff from their Year Team who will be there to support them to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities presented in Year 7.
In addition to the Transition Days for students, we also host a Parents Information Evening for our new Year 7 parents / carers to give them key information about the school. This evening (Thursday 4th July) gives parents / carers the opportunity to meet with their child’s Form Tutor and Year Team, whilst also meeting the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, Year Teams and SENDCo to learn more about the Great Sankey ethos, routines and expectations. To alleviate any concerns in advance, parents/carers can contact our dedicated Transition Team to discuss any concerns or queries via our dedicated transition email address this year's intake: All other enquiries should go to
